From the studio

Where the sound comes from

folk duo recording a live session with a single microphone in a small room

Live sessions

Bands come in on a Thursday afternoon, set up in the back room and play three songs straight through. We put the recording out the same night.

The record room

Roughly nine thousand records, most of them donated by listeners. Presenters pick their own music. There is no playlist and no consultant.

Out on the road

We broadcast from harbour festivals, village halls and the odd car park. If it is happening in the north and it has a PA, we will try to get there.

What we are for

Local radio, made by the people who listen to it

Read our story
01

Every presenter chooses their own music. If a track gets played here it is because somebody in this building wanted you to hear it.

02

We answer the phone. The request line is staffed by a real person from seven in the evening, and we read the messages out on air.

03

Send us a demo and it gets listened to. Not filed, not forwarded. Isla goes through the inbox every Monday morning with a mug of tea.

04

Advertising pays the rent and the transmitter bill. Local shops, venues and trades only. We will tell you honestly if we think it will not work.
